I left home at 16. I became a mother before I turned 18. I put myself through university as a single parent, earned my law degree, and built a career in criminal defence fighting for people who needed someone in their corner.

From the outside that probably looks impressive. From the inside, I spent years carrying things I had no safe space to put down. Guilt. Grief. The particular weight of being the strong one when nobody was strong for you.

What changed everything was not therapy, not a breakthrough moment, not a book. It was finally finding a way to acknowledge what I was carrying, make peace with it, and gently let it go without having to relive every painful detail all over again.
